The Malaysian contingent has set a two-gold target in the upcoming 8th Asia-Pacific Deaf Games in Taiwan, according to chef-de-mission Datuk Naim Mohamad.
Naim said, “We are hoping to bring back gold medals in badminton and bowling events. In athletics, however, there is a target for few silver and bronze medals.
Speaking to Bernama, he added that the national contingent will be taking part in four out of 12 events – football, badminton, bowling and athletics.
Under the care of Malaysian Deaf Sports Association (MSDeaf), a total of 60 people – 40 athletes and 20 officers – will be representing the country, from October 3-11.

Meanwhile, after officiating the opening ceremony yesterday, Minister of Youth and Sports, Khairy Jamaluddin spoke high of the athletes and hoped that they give it their best.
“I feel very proud that deaf athletes have shown a high level of enthusiasm and professionalism to help raise the country’s name on an international level. Their participation is surely an inspiration to all, not only to our normal athletes.”
WHAT DO WE THINK?
They might be having hearing impairment , but they are surely making the right noises. These national athletes are the perfect proof that nothing is impossible, when put in the right effort. It is tough playing any sport without the ability to detect sounds, but these athletes are certainly not letting their hearing loss get in their way of achieving success, and representing the country at the same time. Best of luck guys!
