Durakovic determined to banish ghost of Felda thrashing

Selangor head coach Mehmet Durakovic is determined to see his men leave no stones unturned and destroy the ghosts of their horrendous defeat to Felda United last year.

The Red Giants incurred a 1-4 defeat against the Settlers in the quarter final of the Malaysia Cup year – a loss that effectively knocked them out of the competition, before sparking widespread protests from their own fans.

But as they prepare to face Felda on Saturday, Durakovic desperately doesn’t want to see a repeat of last year’s score line.

“Yes, I still remember that defeat in the Malaysia Cup last year. But this is our best opportunity to defeat them in the same platform,” he told Harian Metro.

“I know it’s not easy to go up against a side with plenty of talented players like Felda, but we’ve proved during the Super League that we are more than capable of beating them.

“I just want my players to do their best. Do not repeat mistakes that we made last year, which unfortunately got us out of the competition,” he added.

WHAT DO WE THINK?

It won’t be unfair to suggest that Selangor are perhaps a lot more capable of dealing with Felda this year. The Red Giants have looked a decent outfit all season long, and with Felda struggling for consistency, this could very well be their best chance to set things straight for once. Nazmi Faiz’s return from suspension will be a timely boost as well, and he’ll be a great help in keeping their midfield intact. Due credit must be given to Irfan Bakti’s men, we love watching them play. But if Selangor can kick into the right gear on Saturday, they will undoubtedly be favourites to clinch the win.
