We’ve got to keep an eye on Bobby Gonzales – ATM’s Syed Adney

ATM goalkeeper Syed Adney has urged his teammates to be wary of the threat posed by Perak’s Bobby Gonzales, when both sides face each other on Saturday night.

The ex-Sabah striker was rather poor under the guidance of Datuk M. Karathu, but seems to have discovered a breath of fresh air since Karathu’s departure. Vjeran Simunic is now utilizing him as part of a three-pronged attack, which also includes Namkung Woong and Chad Souza.

But Syed, who has previously played with Bobby in Sabah FA, knows all about the predatory forward – precisely why he’s eager to keep him contained in Ipoh.

“I’ve played with Bobby in Sabah before so I know all about him. He can be a real destroyer if he’s afforded the space,” he told Harian Metro.

“But besides that, they also have two other foreign players in Namkung Woong and Chad Souza. Both of them are equally dangerous. That being said, we have experienced defenders on our side as well, so it’s not impossible to keep them contained,” he added.

WHAT DO WE THINK?

If this statement was made three months ago, we’d all be scratching our heads. Bobby seems to have really rediscovered his touch in recent weeks, and while he doesn’t score as much as he used to with Sarawak, the 31 year-old can be a real handful with his movement inside the box. Perak will be clear favourites in this one, and they will be buoyed by their 1-0 win over Sarawak last weekend. But ATM also know that the Seladangs are low on confidence at this point, and a couple of early goals could realistically end the tie.
