Frost doesn’t need to showcase his superiority, says ex-national shuttler

Former Malaysian shuttler Datuk Seri Jalani Sidek has urged BAM’s Morten Frost to use his recent bust-up with Chong Wei as an important lesson – claiming that it’s pointless for him to unnecessarily assert his authority.

Chong Wei blamed his poor performances at the Korea and Japan Open on Frost’s refusal to send a sparring partner to compete in those tournaments, though both individuals have solved their misunderstanding since then.

“Chong Wei wasn’t asking for something ridiculous. Frost is in a position of power though I’m pretty sure he can’t be a sparring partner for Chong Wei either,” Datuk Seri Jalani told Harian Metro.

“If we can’t help him, then it becomes a problem. Chong Wei himself has a lot of pressure on his shoulders, so we need to assist him in any way we can.

“I hope this is used as a lesson, as there’s no point in arguing. It’s far better if we can rally behind Chong Wei and give him the support he needs,” he added.

Frost has now confirmed that Chong Wei Feng will be participating at the Danish and French Open next month, and will also act as LCW’s de-facto sparring partner.

WHAT DO WE THINK?

As much as we agree with Datuk Jalani, we’re also inclined to believe that the decision wasn’t made to showcase his superiority. Perhaps, it was a cost-benefit analysis, which visibly went wrong in this case. What’s important is that the pieces have been picked up and these guys are on their way towards making a change. Hopefully with Wei Feng by his side, Chong Wei will be able to turn on the style in Europe, because at this stage, every point is crucial for his hopes of sealing a spot at the Rio Olympics.
