THT wins TNB Cup after dramatic penalty shootout win over KLHC

Terengganu Hockey Team (THT) completed a double for the season after claiming the TNB Cup in a 5-4 penalty shootout win over Kuala Lumpur Hockey Club (KLHC) at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil yesterday.

For the second consecutive year, THT have won both the league and overall championship, win a win against rivals KLHC making it even sweeter.

The match saw KLHC starting brightly, but eventually THT took the lead with Faizal Saari, only for Razie Rahim to equalize with his 18th goal of the TNBMHL 2015 season.

Both teams had their fair share of ball possession but could not muster anything, resulting in a 1-1 draw in normal time.

And in the penalty shootout, THT and KLHC were leveled at 3-3, before Mohd Syamim Yusof missed the deciding penalty – giving THT the coveted trophy.

THT coach Sarjit Singh said, “We never expected to go into a shootout. It’s sad for them (KLHC) not to win the shootout. But that’s luck.”

On the other hand, it was KLHC coach Dharmaraj’s 15th final as a coach, which turned into a nightmarish moment for the 46 year-old.
