M’sia U16 seal AFC Championship spot

Malaysia have qualified for the 2016’s Asian Football Confederation Under-16 Championship finals after a 1-1 draw with Laos in Vientiane yesterday.

The draw was enough to confirm Malaysia’s entry in the championship for the second year running, after they finished top of qualifying Group G with 10 points out of four matches.

Next year’s finals will be held in India, with Malaysia’s best achievement coming in 2014 Bangkok edition after reaching the quarter finals.

For the record, coach P. Somasundram’s boys have scored a total of 22 goals and conceded just one in the qualifying rounds.

They thrashed Northern Mariana Islands 13-0 and Philippines 7-0, and claimed a crucial 1-nil victory over Timor Leste.
