M’sian pair Koo-Tan crash out of Korea Open

Malaysia’s hopes of reaching the men doubles final were dashed after Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong crashed out of the Korea Open.

The duo were the only Malaysians left in the tournament, after defeats to men singles player Lee Chong Wei and doubles Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong in earlier rounds.

And their quarter final tie was not made any easier, as they faced China’s Fu Haifeng and Zhang Nan.

The fourth seeded China pair eased through a convincing 21-16 21-12 win, leaving Malaysian hearts broken.

Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong announced their comeback earlier this year, after leaving Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) to train on their own. They are currently aiming to qualify for next year’s Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
