Macau Open: Nicol misses out, spotlight on Delia and Nafiizwan

After failing to claim back the women’s number one position during the China Open last week, Nicol David has confirmed pulling out from the Macau Open, which begins today.

Her withdrawal means that only two players, Nafiizwan Adnana and Delia Arnold, will be representing the nation in the men and women’s category.

Nafiizwan, who is seeded eight in the competition, will be facing Leo Au from Hong Kong in the first round while Delia will be going against second seed Nour El Tayeb of Egypt.

Nicol decided not to participate in the very last minute, due to her calf injury, which has been troubling her in recent times.

With Nicol’s absence, Raneem El Welily will be maintaining her position as world number one for the second month running, with Laura Massaro being named the first seed in tournament.
