Malaysia women’s hockey team craving for exposure

National women’s hockey team head coach Lailin Abu Hassan hopes Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) will offer them opportunities to gain more exposure abroad, in order to develop their performances.

Lailin said the approach is to reduce the quality gap between Malaysia and other countries, such as India and Pakistan.

“I do feel that we have a selection of quality players but they still need intensive training in a higher level.”

“For example, training sessions should be held outside of Malaysia to further recognize how they fair against other teams,” he told Arena Metro.

The hockey team under Lailin ended the Asian Junior Women’s Cup in China at fifth place, failing to qualify for the World Cup next year in process.

“There is certainly a sense of disappointment of failing to progress to the quarter finals at least. But looking back on our own capabilities, I’m satisfied with the team’s achievement as we only had two months of preparation.”
