Chong Wei lacks confidence – BAM’s Morten Frost

Badminton Assocation of Malaysia’s (BAM) Technical Director Morten Frost believes thats Lee Chong Wei’s lack of confidence contributed towards his shocking exit from the Korea Open yesterday.

Chong Wei suffered a defeat to Heo Kwang Hee in the qualifiers, his worst ever start to a World Superseries event and while Morten was quick to admit that the South Korean shuttler did play well, he also pointed out the other glaring issue.

“I think he lacks confidence,” Morten told Metro. “We also have to concede that the South Korean did play well, but I think there was a lot of things going through Chong Wei’s mind,” he added.

Chong Wei’s defeat means that he is now running out of time to collect points and strengthen his bid of securing a berth at the Rio Olympics.

Meanwhile, Zulfadli Zulkifli is through to the first round of the Korea Open after winning both his qualifying ties yesterday, beating USA’s Sattawat Pongnairat as well as Japan’s Kazumasa Sakai.

He will be facing Indonesia’s Tommy Sugiarto in the first round, later today.
