Too early to set target for Rio Olympics – Malaysia’s Chef de Mission

It is still too early to set a target for the Olympics, said Deputy President of Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), Tan Sri Dr. Ir. Mohamed Al Amin Abdul Majid.

He was recently selected as the Chef de Mission for the Olympics and will spearhead Malaysia contingent to Rio de Janeiro, next year.

He pointed out that there are many athletes who still trying to qualify for the Olympics, and a final target can only be set once they’ve completed a proper assessment of the entire contingent that will be heading to Rio.

“I think the announcement of me as a CDM came a little too soon,” he told Utusan.

“There are still many athletes who have not qualified. Take badminton and diving for example; several athletes have already qualified but others are still collecting points for qualification.

“We still have at least a year to plan our strategies and goals for sports that can produce medals but for now, it’s still too early,” he said.
