Lee Chong Wei fell to his earliest defeat in a World Superseries event after losing to South Korea’s Heo Kwang Hee in straight sets this morning.
The former world number one arrived in Korea on the back of a frustrating second round exit at the Japan Open last week, but he confident going into this one, knowing that his path in the first few rounds will not include Lin Dan or Chen Long.
But the Malaysian struggled from the get go and Heo Kwang Hee only needed less than an hour to claim a 21-19, 21-19 win.

This defeat leaves a massive dent on his hopes of competing at the Rio Olympics next year, considering that he was required to secure valuable points in Japan and Korea over the last 10 days.
It also comes after BAM Technical Director Morten Frost’s recent comments on Chong Wei lacking match practice. That being said, he will now have less than eight months to revitalize his form and secure a final shot at claiming the elusive Olympic gold medal.
