Deputy President of Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) Datuk Abdul Mokhtar Ahmad has announced that the fate of the Harimau Muda program will be decided in an upcoming meeting.
According to him, a certain “task force” has been assigned to come up with a report, which will help the governing body in making a decision.
“The report, which consists of all the programs regarding Young Tigers, will be handed over to FAM executives for a decision to be made soon,” he told Arena Metro.
“Discussions will be carried out among our football experts such as former coaches and players, including academics and media representatives.”
Early this year, FAM disbanded the Under-23 squad, which was under the guidance of Ong Kim Swee. All the players were released to their respective state clubs.
In contrast, FAM decided to maintain Mohd Razip Ismail’s Under-21 team and Hassan Sazali’s Under-19 squad.
FAM’s decision to disband the Under-23 squad, however, raised a few eyebrows, with the national team failing to progress in the Singapore SEA Games recently.
