Nicol David’s coach Liz Irving claims that it’s only a matter of time before the Malaysian squash queen reclaims the world number one spot from Raneem El Weilely.
She was on top of the world ranking for a whopping nine years, before her Egyptian rival surpassed her last month. Liz though, thinks that Nicol’s willpower will eventually restore her best form.
“I think Nicol was expecting it. Being the world number one for such a long time is incredible. It takes a lot of focus and dedication,” Liz told Harian Metro.
“But I also know that she’s determined to reclaim the spot. She will be working extremely hard in the next two to three months. That’s who she is. She’s always thirsty for success.
Nicol was scheduled to compete at the Macau Open this Thursday, but a calf injury has now forced her to withdraw from the competition and thus allowing Raneem to maintain her top spot for the second consecutive month.
