Selangor 0-3 Kelantan: Red Giants ripped apart on home soil

Kelantan got their Malaysia Cup campaign off to a brilliant start after sealing a comfortable 3-0 win over Selangor earlier today.

Despite playing away from home, goals from Gilmar da Silva (two) and Iwuji Amamchi was more than enough to help them secure valuable three points at the Shah Alam Stadium.

There were haze concerns prior to the match, but kick off got underway as scheduled and Kelantan were in control from the get go. Their distribution was efficient, as they sprayed passes around comfortably.

But it took them 26 minutes to translate the domination into a breakthrough as Gilmar fired home to make it 1-0.

Selangor tried to bounce back, but the partnership of Amiridzwan Taj and Jonathan McKain worked efficiently in nullifying the threat posed by Afiq Azmi. Both individuals were even booked on two separate occassions, as the game went into half time.

After the break, Kelantan seized control and doubled their lead almost immediately. Three minutes after the restart, Iwuji fired home to make it 2-0.

The second goal silenced the home crowd as it became evident that Kelantan meant business. But merely four minutes later, Gilmar found the back of the net for the second time to make it 2-0 on the day.

Apek was forced to make two fantastic saves, before Wan Zack was brought on in place of Norfarhan to further increase their Kelantan’s potency upfront. But despite Selangor’s best efforts, the Red Warriors eventually held on to secure a comfortable win that allows them to get their Malaysia Cup campaign off to a positive start.
