MHC needs to prioritize long-term plans, claims former hockey player

Malaysia hockey legend Maninderjit Singh has questioned Malaysia Hockey Federation’s (MHC) decision to appoint Stephen Van Huizen as the new head coach for the national squad.

Maninderjit, who was also the former secretary of the body, said MHC needs to come up with a long term plan and a clear intention of what to achieve in the next 4-8 years.

After establishing that, then MHC should find an individual who is capable of fulfilling that mission, instead of appointing someone without any planning.

“I was informed about our mission next, which is to qualify for the 2018 World Cup and 2020 Olympic Games.”

“But after that? If we qualify for the World Cup, there should be a more specific aim after that, for example. Same goes to the Olympic Games.”

“That’s why MHC needs a proper long term plan, but I have not seen any development on that matter yet,” he told Arena Metro.

Maninderjit also added that the accusation is not to question Stephen’s ability, rather to avoid any blaming to occur in case Stephen fails to fulfill the objectives given to him.

Stephen Van Huizen was announced as the new head coach on Monday, with Lim Chiow Chuan to help. The reason of his selection was reportedly based on his success record, when he was previously managing the national team.
