Ex-Formula One driver Alex Yoong has heaped praises on Malaysia’s biggest racing talent, Jazeman Jaafar; claiming that he’s completely ready to compete in F1.
The 22 year-old is currently pushing for a break into Formula One, with the Ministry of Youth and Sports assisting him in his quest to get corporate sponsors to financially back his aspirations.
Alex is now hoping to see him get the financial backing he needs, claiming that Jazeman is perfectly suited to compete in F1.
“He’s quick, he’s a fast driver and he’s extremely talented. He knows how to handle these cars really well,” Alex told FourthOfficial.com
“I don’t think I need to give him any advice as well. I speak to him regularly and as far as I’m concerned, he’s good enough to compete in Formula One.
“I just hope he gets the break he needs to compete there. If he gets the opportunity, it’ll be brilliant for his career,” he added.
Jazeman has reportedly been offered a drivers’ slot with an undisclosed team, though it would cost about RM63 million to allow him to compete throughout the 2015 season.
He is currently under the Petronas Talent Development Program, though they have backed off from the idea of covering his cost of competing in the F1 next year.
Jazeman initially caught the eye of many when he broke into the Formula 3 scene in 2010, before making the paradigm shift to the Formula 3.5 Renault Series in 2013. The Malaysian driver is currently fourth on the drivers’ standings, with 91 points.
