15 year-old Jin Wei delighted with ‘Podium Program’ chance

Goh Jin Wei is certainly on cloud nine.

The 15 year-old shuttler is one of the seven other players to be listed in the Podium Program under National Sports Institute (NSI), which was confirmed by Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) technical director, Mosten Frost Hansen, yesterday.

According to the Sri Hartamas secondary school student, she is truly shocked at her inclusion in the program.

“I’m only 15 this year, and if you think about it there are other senior players who are more worthy of this chance. I do feel surprised and quite astonished about this,” said Jin Wei, as quoted by Harian Metro.

The Penang born athlete, however, was quick to thank BAM for giving her the chance in spite of that.

“This will certainly be a huge motivation for me as BAM has faith in my talent. I will work hard to improve my overall performance, especially physically since I have a small body structure.”

The remaining six players who have been included are Lee Chong Wei, Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong, Vivian Hoo-Woon Khe Wei and Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying.

One of the reasons for Jin Wei’s addition could be the fact that she has been performing well this year. Besides winning the bronze medal at Singapore SEA Games, she has also won the KL Open National Circuit and brought home another bronze medal from the Asian Junior Championships in Bangkok, last July.
