AFF U19 Championships: Young Tigers draw blank against Vietnam

Malaysian Under-19 squad took a huge step closer to the semi-finals of Asian Football Federation (AFF) Under-19 Youth Championships after playing out a goalless draw with Vietnam yesterday night.

The one point gained by Hassan Sazali’s team will be significant enough for them to stay top of Group B, with seven points after three games.

The Young Tigers previously defeated Timor Leste 2-1 and Singapore 4-0.

In yesterday’s action, Vietnam started well in the early stages, but failed to penetrate Malaysia’s defence.

Things took a turn for the worse when Malaysian forward, Muhammad Jafri Muhammad Firdaus Chew, was forced out in the 17 minute due to a knee injury, which clearly impacted the team’s search for a goal.

Nevertheless, Hassan Sazali was glad with the end result and praised his players for their performance.

“The players were committed and played according to plan. We still want to win in the next match against Myanmar this Saturday, because as I said before, we can’t afford to underestimate any teams,” he told Berita Harian.
