Woon Khe Wei reiterates desire to remain with BAM

National women’s doubles shuttler Woon Khe Wei has reiterated her desire to remain with Badminton Association Malaysia.

A reasonable amount of athletes have left BAM this year, with the likes of Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong opting to be independent athletes.

But Khe Wei echoed the sentiments of BAM’s Kenny Goh, who recently suggested that the economic conditions are not suitable for athletes to be independent.

But beyond that, her desire to remain with BAM is influenced by the organization’s decision to increase allowance packages for athletes under its’ tutelage.

“I’m happy to know that the reward and allowance packages have been increased. It’s not only good for the juniors, but also for the seniors like me. It will only motivate us to perform better in future tournaments,” she told Harian Metro.

“Yes, the economic conditions are not ideal for players to leave BAM at this point. The independent shuttlers will definitely find it difficult to get external sponsorships,” she added.
