Former national shuttler Hafiz Hashim believes that joining Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) would be the best decision Zulfadli can make at this point in his career.
The 22 year-old is currently trains under his dad Zulkifli Sidek, a former national shuttler himself. According to Hafiz though, it’s fair to make the jump now, considering that his current situation hasn’t contributed any form of success.
“I’m not criticizing him for training with his father, but it’s obvious that it’s not working too well,” he told Harian Metro.
“Not to say that there has been absolutely no success at all, but he only managed to pull off a surprise against a higher-ranked player at the World Championships – that’s about it.
But the former All-England champion doesn’t feel that Zulfadli needs to separate both parties at this point. He claims that being under BAM would not restrict his dad from being involved in his career as well.
“Join BAM, but at the same time, seek advice from his dad. We definitely don’t want to split them up. There’s nothing wrong in being under his dad, but so far, it hasn’t worked too well.
“If he is under BAM, everything is guaranteed and provided in terms of financial support, tournaments and sponsorships. I think he fears something and that’s stopping him from joining BAM. But at the end of the day, the choice is his,” Hafiz added.
