As expected, Terence Author Walsh, or better known as Terry Walsh was appointed as the new technical director for the Malaysia Hockey Confederation (MHC), with him taking charge starting last Saturday.
MHC president, Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal said Walsh, who has returned to serve the country after 22 years, will be responsible for reorganizing the national set-up, including the coaching system as ell.
“We believe his wide range of experience will be a game changing moment for the sport, in Malaysia,” he told Berita Harian.
Terry, 61, was the national team head coach from 1990 to 1993, and he has brought India to qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympics after winning the Asian Games gold medal in Incheon, Korea Selatan last year.
Subahan also added that MHC will announce the new head coach of national men’s squad in the upcoming two weeks.
In the mean time, Terry said that this will be his best chance to educate the coaches about the proper way of coaching.
“This is the right direction for Malaysia hockey. I hope this will be a productive year for the national team,” he added.
