World Championships: Chong Wei books semi-final spot

Lee Chong Wei is through to the semi-final of the World Championships after claiming a straight-forward victory over Hong Kong’s Hu Yun earlier today.

Though the Hong Kong shuttler had knocked out third seed K. Srikanth yesterday, Chong Wei was in completely control during the match, winning the first set 21-12, which was rather comfortable.

Hu Yun provided a little more challenge in the second set though, pushing Chong Wei to the edge of the baseline every now and then, but the former world number one maintained his composure to eventually win it 21-18.

Chong Wei is now one step away from making it to the final, though awaiting him in the semis will either be Lin Dan or Jan O Jorgensen, depending on the outcome of that quarter-final tie.

Meanwhile, Malaysian women’s doubles Amelia Anscelly and Soong Foo Jie were sent packing in the quarters, with Indonesian pair Maheswari-Polii beating them 21-11, 21-11.
