Zulfadli Zulkifli is out of the World Championship after suffering a third round defeat at the hands of 26th ranked Hong Kong shuttler Wei Nan.
The 22 year-old Malaysian came into this round on high spirits, having manouvered past the first two rounds comfortably, especially in his win against Tien Chen Chou in the first round.
But against Wei Nan, he struggled to dictate the tempo from the beginning of the match, allowing the Asian Games bronze medalist to claim the first set 21-15.
The second set was a case of Wei Nan being far more superior, as he used his one-set lead to mentally push Zulkifli into submission, before winning it 21-9 to book his spot in the quarter-finals of the tournament.
Zulfadli’s exit would certainly be a frustrating one, considering that he was eager to prove Morten Frost wrong. The BAM Technical Director had recently questioned Zulfadli’s ability to do well on the international scene.
