Simona Halep cruised into the third round of the ongoing Rogers Open after sealing a comfortable two set win over Jelena Jankovic yesterday.
Despite not playing in a competitive tournament for almost a month now, Halep looked extremely vindictive from the get go, sealing the first set 6-3, while now allowing Jankovic a single break chance.
In the second set, the Romanian saved three break points to conjur a 6-4 win, to ultimately seal the tie and book her spot in the next round of the competition.
“I’m really happy I could win this match because I expected a tough match,” Halep said, as quoted by Eurosport. “I didn’t play a match since Wimbledon so I am really happy that I can say I played my best game.”
Meanwhile, former French Open champion Ana Ivanovic also booked her spot in the third round of the competition, courtesy of a 6-4 7-6(4) win over Belarus’ Olga Govortsova.
