Johor DT’s aspirations of retaining the Malaysia Super League title took a giant leap last night as they secured a narrow 1-0 win over LionsXII to remain on top of the Super League table.
With Pahang merely one point behind them on the league table, Mario Gomez’s men knew they could not afford any forms of slip-up in this one, and duly carved out a pivotal win in the quest of being triumphant.
The home side opened the game brilliantly with Figueroa pushing relentless upfront. But a combination of wastefulness and bad luck resulted in them not being able to net the opening goal within the first 45 minutes.
After the break though, Figueroa finally broke the deadlock, finding the back of the net on the 55th minute to hand JDT a 1-0 lead. LionsXII did not give in easily as they conjured waves of attacks to push for the coveted equalizer.
But despite their best efforts, the home side eventually held on to secure a win, that allowed them to remain on top of the league table.
