Hendrawan’s presence is important to me – Chong Wei

Coach Hendrawan’s magic touch is clearly needed for national badminton star Lee Chong Wei during his time of need, as he recovers from his toe injury besides under pressure to win the World Championships for the first time.

Chong Wei cruised through the first round with a 21-9, 21-13 win over Lithuania’s Kestutis Navickas, then admits the presence of men singles coach Hendrawan, and Morten Frost Hansen, technical director of Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) is crucial to him.

“This will be the second year Hendrawan follows me to the World Championships, while for Frost, it’s the first.”

“I will be working closely with both of them. You and I both know that Hendrawan won the 2001 World Championships in Spain, and this time it’s held at his birthplace.”

“I hope he will be much of a help and I’ll be able to play at my best level,” said Chong Wei, as quoted by Harian Metro.

Chong Wei also added that he will prioritize the matches ahead instead of worrying too much about the injury he suffered.

The Malaysian will face Marc Zwiebler from Germany in the second round later today.
