National diving athlete Pandelela Rinong took to Twitter to pay homage to the victims of Malaysia Airlines flight MH 370, after it was confirmed that a plane wreckage that was detected in Reunion Island did belong to the missing plane.
Flight MH370 dissapeared over 17 months ago, though investigators have never been able to conclusively determine as to what happened to the aircraft. Recently though, debris of what appeared to be parts of an aircraft, emerged on the shores of Reunion Island.
The materials were collected and transported to Toulouse in France, where further investigation was conducted, to identify its’ origins. After a few days of suspense, the Malaysian Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, released an official statement last night, confirming that the debris were indeed from Flight MH370.
While investigation will continue to go on, as they seek to discover more parts of the plane, this piece of news provides a certain degree of closure for families and friends of the victims, considering that the whereabouts of the plane was unknown for almost 17 months.
Pandelela, who recently secured her Rio Olympics slot, immediately penned a tribute on Twitter, saying that the souls of those on board the flight will never be forgotted.
Malaysians will always remember the souls that lost in the flight MH370. #RIP Condolences to the people who were affected by this tragedy.😔
