Ben Leong captures SapuraKencana title

It was a memorable day for Ben Leong as he secured the Sapura Kencana National Qualifier title at the Kuala Lumpur Golf Club and Country (KLGCC), yesterday.

The victory also means that he confirmed his spot in the CIMB Classic Championship, to be held this October 29.

Despite performing below expectations on the final day, the win will be the best motivation for Leong after having to pull out from the Asia tour due to a back injury, which has been bothering him for the past few years.

“Although this win is not as big as participating in the Asia tour, it still means a lot to me. At present, I have no plans for the CIMB Classic yet because it happened out of the blue. I will discuss with my coach before making any decisions,” said the 29-year-old, while speaking to Harian Metro.

The win saw Sabahan Leong bagging home RM 22,000 of prize money, after recording four under par 68 in the second round, although he lost his composure with only two over par 74 in the final round, ending with an overall three below par 213.
