We need funds to help Jazeman compete in F1 – Khairy

Youth and Sports minister, Khairy Jamaluddin has urged the private parties to provide a helping hand for Jazeman Jaafar, in fulfilling his dream to race in the Formula 1 (F1) next year.

Jazeman needs an estimated budget of RM63 million per year to race, and according to Khairy, there hasn’t been any corporate sponsors who have expressed their interest in helping him.

“He (Jazeman) and the father has met me a couple of times regarding this issue, and honestly, the government is currently unable to accommodate the huge amount needed.”

“I understand there hasn’t been any private parties’ offering help for Jazeman as well, maybe due to the economical situation here in the country. Nowadays, private parties have even reduced their investments in the world of sports,” said Khairy, as quoted in Utusan.

Presently, Jazeman is under the Petronas Talent Development Programme, who have been investing on him for the past four years. But as of now, they are unable to continue sponsoring him due to financial issues caused by the drop in oil prices.

“I’m still working on a solution to help him,” said Khairy, after launching the opening ceremony of NBL Asia Basketball League, yesterday.
