Malaysia Super League Preview: PDRM vs Perak

Perak will be looking to return to winning ways when they visit the Shah Alam Stadium to take on PDRM in what should be nothing short of an entertaining affair.

The Seladangs have done well this year, fighting against all odds, with a squad that’s largely made up of youth players, but recent defeats against LionsXII and Kelantan seems to have taken the sting out of them. Fair enough, the squad that faced Kelantan was a depleted one indeed, considering that the likes of Nurridzuan Abu Hassan and Nasir Basharuddin were all absent, but their current situation means that they cannot afford another slip-up.

With six games left in the league, they are merely one point ahead of LionsXII and two points ahead of Selangor and Felda United. At this point, it won’t be entirely wrong to call someone delusional for thinking Perak could go on to win the title, considering the gap between them and Pahang is nine points. But sealing third spot would represent a successful season for Datuk M. Karathu and he will not be prepared to let that go easily.

But in PDRM, they have a side that could spring a surprise. They recent issues have been well documented within the Malaysian football spectrum but despite many expecting them to crumble in the absence of Azman Adnan and the likes of Muslim Ahmad, they performed admirably against Selangor last time out, sealing a 1-1 draw.

Defensively, they can be vulnerable, but PDRM’s attack is more than enough to terrorize any defence in Malaysia. Perak will have to keep a close eye on Ali Ashfaq, who is undoubtedly PDRM’s main threat in front of goal.

A win for Perak will allow them to stay ahead of the chasing pack and also keep track with JDT and Pahang. Both title contenders are taking on the bottom two teams of the league – so chances are that they would end Wednesday with three points in the bag. Whether or not Perak join the bandwagon, is entirely up to them.
