Why talk about Lin Dan? – Lee Chong Wei

He may have fallen behind in terms of rankings, but Lee Chong Wei still remains Malaysia’s only hope in this year’s World Championships in Jakarta, starting August 10.

All eyes will be on the 33-year-old as he aims for the championship after returning from an eight-month ban last May. Since then, Chong Wei has won back to back titles – the US Open and the Canada Open.

This time, the unseeded Lee is tipped to reach at least the semi-finals where his probable opponent would be former world champion, Lin Dan.

Chong Wei though, wasn’t too happy when asked about this potential tie.

“Why talk about Lin Dan when I have not even played my first match?” he said as quoted by Sports247.my

“I am fit and totally focussed on the world championships. Coach Hendrawan and Morten Frost (BAM technical director) have done their best for me.

“I will take one match at a time and would not like to say much about my opponents in the draw. It does not matter who will be my opponent, I have to take everyone as serious contenders,” he added.

The Malaysian shuttler will open his campaign in Jakarta against Lithuania’s Kestutis Navickas, next Tuesday.
