Malaysian girls sent packing in semis of WJSC

The Malaysian junior women’s squash team ended their World Junior Squash Championship journey in the semi-final as they were beaten 2-0 by defending champions, Egypt, in Eindhoven, Netherlands, yesterday.

The defeat saw Malaysia’s representatives repeat the same achievements in the year 1997 (Brazil) and 1999 (Belgium).

In the semi-final action, world junior champion, Nouran Gohar breezed past Andrea Lee in just 21 minutes, with a score of 11-0, 11-7, and 11-4, to give the opening point to Egypt.

Egypt soon confirmed their final spot through Habiba Mohamed, who took down Malaysia’s top junior player, S. Sivasangari 11-6, 11-5 and 11-6.

Egypt will now face the winner of USA vs England from the other semi-final tie. For the record, Egypt are six-time champions in this tournament, having won it in 1999, 2003, 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2013.
