“Just be patient, keep the consistency going and never give up.”
This came from Wendy Ng Yan Yee, after becoming only the second diver for Malaysia to book an early ticket for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
Yan Yee was among the top 12 divers of the 3m springboard individuals’ event who made it to the final of the World Aquatic Championship, therefore securing her place in next year’s prestigious event.
The semi-final in Kazan, Russia saw Yan Yee being tied at 11th spot with Ukraine’s Olena Fedorova, after collecting 296.10 points.
After the event, Yan Yee and fellow diver Pandelela Rinong, who already confirmed her entry earlier, sounded a battle cry “let’s fight for Rio” to all Malaysian athletes.
Pandelela and Ng, both 22, vowed to get a podium finish in Rio, besides encouraging other Malaysian athletes to give it their best as well.
“Every country is improving. We’re not saying we are going backwards but we need to strive for victories,” they told the Malay Mail.
“We need to improve our performances to compete with other world class divers.”
