Please save it! – Azizulhasni begs for Velodrome Rakyat repairs

National track cyclist Azizulhasni Awang has begged for relevant authorities to get involved in refurbishing the Velodrome Rakyat in Ipoh.

This particular velodrome has not been preserved properly over the last few years and it’s current condition depicts nothing but sheer disgrace. Several bodies, including the Malaysian National Cycling Association (PKBM) as well as the Perak Cycling Association (PCA), have been extremely vocal about the issue.

That being said, no tangible action has been taken just yet, despite Youth and Sports minister Khairy Jamaluddin claiming that refurbishment plans are in the pipeline.

“I hope the central government and the state government can get together and do something about the situation,” he told Harian Metro.

“As we know, the velodrome in Cheras is on the verge of being demolished and our track cyclists will not have a place to train. All tournament plans and training schedules will be affected and this will only impact the sport’s reputation within the country.

PKBM recently revealed that it would cost a total of RM4 million to completely repair the track – an amount that they certainly don’t have at this juncture.
