Zulfahmi aims to help younger brother in WSBK

The FIM Superbike World Championship (WSBK) in Malaysia this time is about to receive a new form of attraction, through a sibling rivalry.

Muhammad Zulfahmi Khairuddin has been carrying Malaysia’s hopes in the Moto3 event all this while, but now his brother, Ahmad Idham, will also be given a chance to showcase his talent after gaining a wildcard entry for the Shell Advance Asia Talent Cup (SAATC).

The 16-year old, who took part in the SIC Ninja 250 Cup last year, will be joining fellow national riders Muhammad Shafiq Rasol, Muhammad Fakhrusy Rosram, Muhammad Adam Norrodin, Muhammad Helmi Azman and Azroy Anuar in the SAATC race.

The SAATC race is one of the supporting events for WSBK, which will be held in Sepang race course from 31 July to 2 August.

“I am very proud to be given an opportunity to take part in SAATC Sepang race, what more a world level championship such as WSBK.  I will give my best and hope to be given more chances to race at an international level.”

“My dream is to race alongside my brother, abroad, in the future,” said Ahmad Idham in a statement from Sinar Harian.

Meanwhile, Zulfahmi expressed his delight after appointed as a mentor to his brother. “He has always wanted to follow my footsteps to race at an international level. I, too, was given a wildcard entry to join the MotoGP Malaysia in 2009, and I succeeded.”

If required, I may also give him some tips and advice before the races. Nevertheless, I am confident that he will do fine on his own. Let’s pray that the Sepang race will be a stepping stone for him to be involved in more global races.”

Zulfahmi, who is now racing for SIC Racing Team, is expected to leave to US to take part in the ninth round of Moto3 World Championship – the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix – next week.
