Yes, you read the headline accurately.
Times have been pretty hard for Sepp Blatter, especially over the last few months. And just when it appeared that he was getting some breathing space, the entire Simon Brodkin fiasco took place last week.
This week though, a powerful man has leaped to Blatter’s defence. Russian President Vladimir Putin, in an interview with Swiss broadcaster RTS, claimed that he doesn’t believe in the allegations that have been directed towards Sepp Blatter. But he didn’t just stop there did he?
“We all know the situation developing around Mr Blatter right now,” said Putin. “I don’t want to go into details but I don’t believe a word about him being involved in corruption personally.
“I think people like Mr Blatter or the heads of big international sporting federations, or the Olympic Games, deserve special recognition. If there is anyone who deserves the Nobel Prize, it’s those people.”
Leave aside the fact that he thinks the President of a corrupted organization has nothing to do with the scandal that has rocked it over the past few months, Putin also claims that the President of a corrupted organization deserves to win the Nobel Prize.
Nothing further, needs to be said.
