Paulo Rangel is reportedly trying to push for his contract with Terengganu to be terminated, citing family issues as his main excuse.
The Brazilian forward is currently undergoing a three-month suspension for reacting violently to a match official during Terengganu’s FA Cup semi-final defeat to LionsXII.
However, the former Perak man filed an official request to mutually terminate his contract with Terengganu recently, before discussions broke down after both parties could not agree on the reparation fee that he’d be required to pay in order to terminate the deal.
Immediately after that, Rangel opted to request for a one month leave, which would allow him to head back to Brazil and receive treatment on his injured thigh. That request was approved by the Terengganu FA, though they reaffirmed that legal action will be taken against Rangel, should he fail to return for training in one month’s time.
“Yes, he did request for a mutual termination, but after discussion, the player refused to pay the necessary amount to match the terms we developed for a termination,” Terengganu FA Secretary Arpin Draman told Harian Metro.
“Instead, he asked to be excused for one month, and has returned to Brazil to seek treatment on his injured thigh. But if he doesn’t return on time, we won’t hesitate to take legal action against Rangel,” Arpin added.
Rumours also suggests that several other clubs are eyeing the capture of Rangel, which apparently explains his decision to force a way for him to leave Terengganu.
Arpin though, claims that should any other team be interested in acquiring the services of Rangel, they would have to pay a whopping amount of $2 million, to buy over his existing contract with the Turtles.
