Malaysia gunning to be overall champions of 2017 SEA Games

It is widely speculated that Malaysia will drop certain sports such as boxing – where Malaysia has struggled badly at the 2015 SEA Games, as it is seen as unfavorable to Malaysia’s medal tally.

However according to Datuk Sieh Kok Chi, Malaysia will not take advantage of its position of being the host nation to discount sports that Malaysia are unlikely to compete and will instead ensure that Malaysia will compete in a prideful manner.

“No concrete decisions are made yet so I don’t know why the media is speculating what sports will be competed or dropped.” He said, as quoted by Harian Metro.

“Yes, we aim to become overall champions, but we will ensure that we emerge with dignity. OCM will not drop any sports that are considered important at the Olympics even if those sports are not favorable to Malaysia. Therefore, every sports that will be contested will be quality sports.”

Malaysia came fourth at the 2015 SEA Games held in Singapore, and will seek to finish higher in two years time.
