Brendan Rodgers continued his vague stance on Liverpool’s alleged move for Aston Villa forward Christian Benteke, claiming that he will not be dragged into commenting on players that have not joined the squad.
The Reds reportedly broke the release clause of the Belgian forward last week, before he passed a medical in London yesterday. His move to Anfield is on the verge of being completed, though Rodgers refused to speak about the 24 year-old forward.
“As I’ve previously said, I will only comment on players that are part of our current squad. I have no comments on individuals who are not part of the team,” he told reporters at a press conference in Malaysia.
“Last season was obviously disappointing. But we’ve brought in quality new players who are all up for a new challenge. What’s important is the mentality of this players.
“So, I’m definitely looking forward to seeing them improve. I’m delighted with the new signings we’ve made,” he added.
The Liverpool manager was speaking at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur, ahead of their friendly tie against a Malaysia XI side on Friday. The home side will be led by current national team head coach Dollah Salleh, who is determined to see his side do better than they did against Tottenham Hotspur in May.
“I’m excited about the match on Friday, and I hope to see my boys play well and impress. Hopefully, more than we did against Tottenham Hotspur,” Dollah said.
