TMJ: Dortmund match is a turning point for JDT

Borussia Dortmund added another six goals to their collection as they cruised past Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) in a friendly match held at Tan Sri Hassan Yunos Stadium, Larkin, last night.

Malaysia is only the second stop on Dortmund’s pre-season Asia tour, where as the first was Japan. They also scored 6 goals against J-League’s side, Kawasaki Frontale.

Goals from star players such as Ilkay Gundagon, Shinji Kagawa and Marco Reus contributed to Dortmund’s win, while JDT’s only goal was scored by Gary Steven Robbat.

According to the President of the Johor Football Association (PBNJ), Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, the match is considered a step forward for the club, in terms of improvement and experience.

“This encounter is a symbol of our efforts. To all the JDT fans, defeat to any teams should not be taken as a failure, rather a lesson for the future.”

“Each time we go against a better team, it’s a chance to identify our weaknesses and work on it,” the Johor prince spoke to Berita Harian on Thursday.

He also added that the main attention is still on the Super League, where Johor will go up against Selangor on 13th July.

In the meantime, CEO of Borussia Dortmund, Carsten Cramer, said it’s been a privilege to be a guest of JDT as they share the same enthusiasm in football.

“JDT is a club with amazing fans, something that we, Dortmund, also have and we hope this agreement between us last longer,” added Cramer.

For the 8 time German champions, this is their first visit to Malaysia. They will continue their tour against neighbours Singapore, next.
