The World Amateur Inter-Team Golf Championship (WAITGC) sponsored by Malaysia Tourism continues to get attention from golfers around the world, most recently in the island of Langkawi.
The intent of this championship is to promote Malaysia as a tourist spot especially for fans of the sport internationally.
With over 200 fields over the country, gold is capable of becoming the surprise element in attracting followers and at the same time contribute to Malaysia’s income.
In Langkawi, Team Green and Gold from Australia emerged the winner of the gross category, with a difference of 41 hits, in the third round played at Gunung Raya Golf Club and The Els Club.
The Australian team recorded a total of 908 hits, forcing Team Kabak-Kabak Putting from Brunei to settle for second with 949 hits.
Malaysia’s Maybank team, meanwhile, won the stableford category with a total of 453 points.
All the winners will be back in action for the final round at The Mines Gold Club and Sungai Long Golf Club, Kuala Lumpur, on 17 to 19 November later this year.
