Pahang went five points clear at the top of the Malaysia Super League after clinching a routine 3-1 win over Sarawak at the Darul Makmur Stadium yesterday.
With Johor DT not playing yesterday, Pahang knew that they needed to win and further solidify their status as league leaders. Perak were three points behind the Tok Gajahs, though their tie against LionsXII was bound to be tricky in one way or another.
Pahang opened the game brightly, controlling the tempo of the game, much to the delight of their boisterous home fans. That eventually helped them open the scoring on the 22nd minute mark, through Zesh Rehman, whose form this season, has been scintillating.
But after the break, Sarawak formulated a mini revival and eventually managed to equalize, thanks to Joseph Kalang Tie’s fine finish on the 64th minute. At this point, it was confirmed that Perak suffered a defeat against LionsXII (the match started one hour earlier than the rest), meaning that Pahang could open a five-point gap at the top, should they win this one.
Zainal Abidin’s men upped their tempo, leading to Dickson Nwakaeme’s goal on the 70th minute, to restore Pahang’s lead in the game. Less than 10 minutes later, Azamuddin Akil slotted home to make it 3-1 and ultimately seal valuable three points for Pahang, as their quest for Super League glory continued in a fashionable manner.
