Malaysian divers made a big splash at the SEA Games last month, swooping a total of eight gold medals in the process, besides reaffirming their desire to be a regional powerhouse.
But in retrospect, their achievement was expected from them, given the sort of results they have been producing over the past few years. The national divers themselves, while happy with the SEA Games achievement, are already looking towards a bigger dream.
“Of course, Olympics is the ultimate dream – and not just being there, getting onto the podium,” he told The New Paper Online.
“My first target is Rio and, for that, I have to do well at the World Championships (next month).”
Pandelela Rinong seized a bronze medal for the first time at the London Olympics last time out, and expectations have increased since then.
The Malaysian diving squad is currently in Guangzhou, preparing for the world meet under the guidance of head coach Yang Zhuliang.
