Mayweather stripped of WBO title for violation of rules

Floyd Mayweather is no longer WBO welterweight champion – the title that he won against Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao back in May, after he failed to pay the $200,000 sanction fee required by the World Boxing Organization for winning the title that he so famously won against Pacquiao.

The rules of WBO states that 3% fee out of participating boxers is required in order to compete for the world title, but Floyd “Money” Mayweather as he is known as, has had some history with the WBO in the past which may explain his refusal to pay the fee.

According to a statement which said: “The WBO World Championship Committee is allowed no other alternative but to cease to recognize Mr Floyd Mayweather Jr as the WBO welterweight champion of the world and vacate his title.”

Mayweather Jr. still holds both WBC and WBA titles as he is both welterweight and super welterweight champions. He won $220M from the fight with Pacquiao back in May.

He still has 14 days to appeal the decision.
