Argentina were left heartbroken again after losing their second successive final following their last year’s FIFA World Cup.
Once again, Argentina’s inability to finish their chances came back to haunt them, with the highlight being Gonzalo Higuain’s blatant outrageous miss.
Try as he might, Lionel Messi came back crashing down to earth as he could not inspire his side to win their first ever Copa America in 22 years as he was crowded by opposition players time and time again.
More peculiarly though, was how Gary Mendel remained on the field after his high kick on Messi only earned him a yellow card, reminiscent of Nigel De Jong’s kung fu style kick on Xabi Alonso in the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
The game went on to penalties after neither side could edge one another, and after Ever Benega and yet again another Higuian dreadful spotkicks, the momentum was presented to Chile to finish win the competition.
Up stepped Alexis Sanchez as his Pirlo-esque penalty ensured that many Chilean all over the nation will mysteriously call in sick for work.
