Wong Fai Yin- Chow Mei Kuan make it to World Championships line-up

National shuttlers Wong Fai Yin and Chow Mei Kuan have successfully entered the line-up for the upcoming World Championships that will take place in Jakarta starting from August 10 before ending at 16.

Following the withdrawal of several mixed doubles pairs, the Badminton World Federation (BWF) has sent invitations to the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) to include Fai Yin and Mei Kuan.

Apart from the two, Tan Aik Quan and Lai Pei Jing will be joining Tan Chee Tian and Shevon Jemie Lai as the mixed doubles players in the World Championships. This will be the first appearance for Fai Yin-Mei Kuan and Chee Tian-Shevon in the World Championships.

However, reformed duo Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying will be missing the championships as Liu Ying was inactive for quite some time due to a knee injury.

National doubles coach Tan Kim Her is delighted about the news of the line-up.

“This will be a wonderful journey for them,” said Kim Her as quoted from Nanyang.

“In just within a year, Fai Yin and Mei Kuan performed well and showed great improvements. They deserve to play in the World Championships. This will be a great platform to see how well they do among the international players.”

22 year-old Fai Yin and 21 year-old Mei Kuan are currently ranked 45th in the world.

The Malaysian line-up will also include four women’s doubles pairs, which are Vivian Hoo and Woon Khe Wei, Lee Meng Yean and Lim Yin Loo, Amelia Alicia Anscelly and Soong Fie Cho and also Yap Cheng Wen and Joyce Choong Wai Chi.

Lee Chong Wei and Zulfadli Zulkiffli will be playing in the men’s singles section whereas Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong are the sole representatives in the men’s doubles section.
