The women’s team of the national badminton squad successfully made it past the semi finals by defeating Indonesia 3-1 yesterday.
The team will face Thailand in the finals today.
For the opening match, the nation was held back 0-1 when Tee Jing Yi was knocked off by Lindaweni Fanetri 12-21 and 10-21 within 37 minutes. Jing Yi was seen making a lot of errors throughout the match and could not catch up with Lindaweni.
Vivian Hoo and Woon Khe Wei had to put up an intense battle against Awanda Anggia Shitta and Mahadewi Istirani to equalize the score. The two defeated the Indonesian pair 21-18, 19-21 and 21-6.
Ho Yen Mei then put the nation in the lead when she downed Hanna Ramadini 21-19, 11-21 and 21-19 in the third section.
Women’s doubles duo Amelia Alicia Anscelly and Soon Fie Choo contributed the ultimate win for Malaysia when they ousted Andini Suci Rizky and Giovani Maretha Dea. The national pair was defeated in the first set 15-21 but bounced back to dominate the next two sets 21-19 and 21-13.
“I feel like we were too eager to end the match and we made some errors because of that,” said Vivian about their second set loss as quoted from Kosmo.
“In the third set, we bounced back and fixed our performance and managed to win.”
Meanwhile, Amelia Alicia had admitted that their defeat in the first set was due to nervousness but the support from Fie Choo made them both wanted to thrive.
“I felt nervous in the first set and it was not happening for us. In the second set, we were used to the atmosphere and got the rhythm. Then we succeeded. I am happy because I got the chance to contribute a point for the national squad,” said Amelia Alicia.
