SEA Games: Malaysian divers land eight gold medals

The national diving team continues to secrete excellent display of skills as they successfully secured eight gold medals.

The divers displayed world-class qualities in every event held in the OCBC Aquatic Centre.

Diving sensation Pandelela Rinong and team mate Loh Zhiayi both dominated gold and silver in the 10m women’s individual platform yesterday. Pandelela topped it with 353.00 points whereas Zhiayi did it with 305.20 points. The bronze was handed to Singaporean Frieda Lim who only scored 251.70 points.

The second event saw Pandelela making mild errors during her landing and she could only manage to get 49.30 points.

However, she bounced back in the third and final event when she recorded a high of 81.60 points to take home the ultimate win.

“We are so happy with the win because our target to take home all the gold medals has achieved. I feel so happy even though I am tired. I did my best,” said the Sarawakian as quoted from Kosmo.

“I have noticed a lot of improvement from the foreign opponents this year.”

“They did better than they did in Myanmar two years ago. I have never underestimated their ability.”

Despite the clean sweep of gold medals, Pandelela remains modest of her performances.

“The SEA Games this year gave me motivation to do better in the World Diving Series. It’s a medium for me to practice in order to qualify for the Olympics next year. I want to try my best after winning bronze in the 2012 London Olympics.”
