SEA Games: Malaysian pair march into table tennis semis

The Malaysian table tennis pair Ng Sock Khim and Angeline Tang An Qi, who were expected to deliver a medal in the women’s doubles section, instantly ended their aspirations when they were defeated by Zhou Yi Han and Lin Ye of China in the quarter finals.

The two were unable to level to the Chinese pair as they were knocked off in straight sets, 11-7, 11-5, 11-4.

However, another national women’s pair, Ho Ying and Lee Rou You showed consistency and managed to beat Indonesian pair Gustin Dwijayanti and Kharisma Nur Hawa 11-6, 11-8 and 11-6 in the quarter finals.

Men’s doubles duo Wong Chun Chuen and Leong Chee Feng were downed by Philippine’s Richard Gonzales and Rodel Irineo Valle 1-3. The two extended the match to four games but eventually gave in with scores 5-11 11-8 6-11 7-11.

Muhd Shakirin Ibrahim and Mohd Ashraf Haiqal Mohd Rizal also failed to proceed further when they were shown the exit by Vietnam’s Nguyen Anh Tu-Tran Tuan Quynh 10-12 11-8 6-11 4-11.

In the men’s singles section, Ashraf Haiqal was beaten by Ficky Santoso of Indonesia in straight sets of 9-11 6-11 10-12.
